6 Singable Collections for Preschool Choirs
Do you teach a preschool choir?
If so, you know that preschoolers are musical explorers. They love to sing, dance, play, move, and experience music with their whole selves.
It can be challenging to find music that’s developmentally appropriate for preschoolers, as much of our contemporary music is too low and music written for elementary choirs is often too complex, has too big a range, is too long, and has too many words.
Wondering what’s developmentally appropriate?
Download my free resource, “What to Teach When in Children’s Choir.” In it, you’ll find a general list of musical skills and concepts that are developmentally appropriate for children in preschool through 5th grade.
Use this resource as a point of reference in your teaching, a record of what you are accomplishing in your rehearsals throughout the year, and a guide to what children at different ages may be capable of, both developmentally and musically.

Here are a few things to look for when you’re choosing music for preschoolers:
Range: Middle C up to A (occasional B)
Length: short (melody is 8-16 mm.)
Accompaniment: piano/guitar (simple, supportive, includes melody) or unaccompanied
Form: AA, AB, or ABA
Style: call and response, simple patterns, repetition
Features: musical contrasts (loud/soft, long/short, fast/slow, up/down)
Consider, too, other ways for children to experience and engage with the music through hand and body movements, dance and free play, listening, and playing instruments.
Today, I’m sharing six ready-to-use preschool song collections (many with teaching steps, performance and accompaniment recordings, printable visuals, corresponding movements, and correlating activities) to consider for your choir this year.
